The Parishes became a United Benefice on 1st April 2007, the Living being in the Gift of Sir James Graham of Netherby and The Bishop of Carlisle.
The benefice is part of the Deanery of Brampton in the Diocese of Carlisle.

Historical

The Esk Parishes lie to the north of Cumbria along the Scottish border. In previous times this area was known as the ‘Debatable Lands’ being the March country separating the Kingdoms of England and Scotland. Although nominally ruled over by the Lord of the Marches from Carlisle Castle, the area was very much in the hands of the Reiver Families, whose descendants still people the area, with surnames such as Graham, Armstrong, Elliott, Bell, Storey.

Longtown

Longtown is situated about 8 miles to the north of Carlisle, close to the border between England and Scotland. It lies between the River Lyne and the River Esk. The A7 trunk road passes over the River Esk via a grade 2 listed bridge.
