St Michael and all Angels, Arthuret, Longtown New 4th Centenary Window The Brief To celebrate the 4th centenary of the founding of the church in 1609 the PCC wished to commission a new window which would celebrate the history of the church and its establishment together with references to the life of this border community. Significant features are the union of England with Scotland under King James I and VI, the decline of Reiving activity, the influence of local man Archie Armstrong the King's jester, local industry and the even older church community founded by St. Kentigern. Location The site of the window is in the south aisle and consists of 3 lights each in 2 parts. Two other windows on this side of the church date from 1908 and 1970. Although good light is received on this side of the church it will be important that the design should not be too heavily coloured in order to maintain good light in the building.
